About Us

Taxis For All Sign at ADA rally in 2006
Taxis For All Campaign is a coalition of disability rights organizations and individuals in New York City dedicated to the goal of having all yellow cabs be wheelchair accessible and many black car and car service cars be wheelchair accessible following the principles of universal design. We believe that a vehicle that is good for us is good for everyone else, too. We don't want a taxi system that is “special,” segregated, and separate because it will not have equivalent service. We want to stick out our hand and say, “Taxi!”

We were formed in 1996 by disability rights activists in New York City who were very frustrated by the inaccessibility of New York City cabs and with the inability of getting around in our city. We had experienced accessible cabs in Boston and other cities and realized how much better New York City would be with accessible taxis.
